Anchor Lead:
If you had a billion dollars, would you invest your fortune in public schools? That's what the Bill and
Melinda Gates Foundation is doing. Dozens of philanthropies connected to big business ranging form Wal-Mart
to Dell Computers are also investing in elementary, middle, and high schools. This week, The
Learning Curve is looking at how these dollars are influencing public education in Washington State. In part
one of our three-part series Lessons Learned, KPLU's Jennifer Wing talks with Richard Colvin from
Columbia University's Hechinger Institute.
